Kino's director reveals future plans for the new company
Matt Breckon was looking to the future this week, just days after the company completed its purchase of Hawkhurst cinema.
"We're looking at the South East," he told the Kent and Sussex Courier.
"We're looking for similar locations to replicate Hawkhurst, putting behind us what we've learned from Sevenoaks going into the wrong type of venue."
The Rye Road cinema's former owner Kino Holdings, went into administration in July and Mr Breckon – also its managing director – faced criticism from traders who were left out of pocket.
The troubled company was forced to close the Stag Theatre, in Sevenoaks, while the cinema was put into the hands of administrators, leaving behind a string of creditors.
Managing director of newly formed company Kino Digital Mr Breckon said he hoped to build on the cinema's popularity and success, learning from past mistakes.
He said: "I came in after the lease on Sevenoaks had been signed and it was like trying to tame a wild animal, we tried our best. From a business perspective it (administration) was the right decision even though it was a tough decision from a cultural and social point of view.
"Kino Hawkhurst is a fantastic product but the business was built on sand and those foundations weren't visible at the time."
As well as expanding the business, the 34-year-old also plans to improve the facilities in the parish council owned Victoria Hall in the coming months.
They include making the entrance more welcoming, improving the outside space and revamping the cafe with comfortable seating.
In response to concerns raised by some villagers over the morality of Kino Digital taking on the cinema lease Mr Breckon added: "As a human being it is very difficult morally but what we did was a legal requirement. I wasn't prepared to jeopardise my own personal situation by breaking the law.
"The difficult thing is I'm associated with all three stages and that is not through design but through sheer hard work and determination and stubbornness because I want to preserve this place and take it to other communities as well.
"I don't take lightly what we have been through and I don't ever want it to happen again."
