A five-year-old boy hurt in a car accident outside his school in High Brooms is making good progress, according to police.

The boy was in collision with a Ford Fusion outside St Matthew's School in Powder Mill Lane on Wednesday afternoon.

After being taken to a hospital in London with head injuries the boy is now described by police as stable and recovering.

Anna Wakefield, a local resident, saw the child in the aftermath of the incident.

She said: "I felt physically sick. These are not teenagers running around, these are little kids and its heartbreaking to see them get hurt.

"He was looking very pale. I asked if they needed help but there were already plenty of people there."

Police are investigating the incident.
