Top trio to take Torch through our towns
A TRIO of top sports people will join the inspirational heroes carrying the Olympic Flame through Thanet this month.
Britain's number one tennis player Elena Baltacha, Olympic medal winner in javlin Steve Backley and former Olympic and Commonwealth swimmer Karen Pickering will carry torches through the district on Thursday, June 19.
Artist Tracey Emin will also carry the flame in her home town of Margate, taking it to Turner Contemporary where her one-woman show She Lay Down Deep Beneath The Sea is currently being exhibited.
Elena is Britain's number one tennis player and has been representing the country for more than ten years. She will carry the Torch through St Peter's.

Steve is one of Britain's most successful athletes, consistently ranked in the world top ten for javelin every year from 1989 to 2002. To date he is the only British track and field competitor to medal at three consecutive Olympic Games; winning bronze in Barcelona 1992, silver in Atlanta 1996 and silver in Sydney 2000. Steve will carry the torch through part of Ramsgate.
Karen was a member of the British Swimming Squad from 1986 to 2005. Honours include eight World Championship medals, four of which were gold, 14 European Championship medals, 38 National Championship titles and 13 Commonwealth Games medals including 4 Gold. She will carry the torch through Margate.
