after marching up an incredible 107 years.
Hackney-born Ivy Campany lived at Green Gables nursing home in Cliftonville. Her funeral was held on Wednesday at Holy Trinity church.
As a young and sickly child, Ivy Lillian Dixon was brought to Thanet by her father to improve her health.
Full of smiles and jokes on her birthday in September, the former Holy Trinity pupil could even recite her Army number (47103DixonIL) from her time in Queen Mary’s Women’s Army Auxiliary Core during the First World War. Ivy also did her bit during the Second World War as a fire-watcher in Margate, warning people to take cover.
Along with her husband Frederick, who died in 1960, they sadly lost their only son Eric when he was killed in a bombing raid during the war.
Niece Betty Hougham and husband Ken, from Palm Bay, used to visit her every week, and her great-niece Eileen Sheldon and husband John lived nearby in iving nearby in Westgate.
Mrs Hougham said: "The funeral was a really nice service and she went quite peacefully. "The service was held at Holy Trinity and we went to the Walpole Bay afterwards.
"It was quite a turn out with about 30 people although some couldn’t make it on time because of the accidents on the Thanet Way.
"She was a very strong-willed lady and always kept going.
"Mike Nichols your photographer had been coming to see her every year since she turned 100.
"He would always say, ‘I’ll see you next year’ and she’d always reply, ‘I won’t be here next year’.".
