A council spokesman said numerous complaints had been received about increased numbers of lorries parking overnight on the Western Undercliff after the recent bad weather damaged the lorry parking area at the Port of Ramsgate.
The surface has broken up considerably and now has deep pot holes in it, presenting a health and safety hazard and a very real risk of damage to vehicles.
As a result, the council has closed the lorry park whilst urgent repairs are carried out. Orders have now been placed and it is expected that the work will be carried out around Easter.
In the meantime, lorries are instead using the Western Undercliff for parking.
Cllr John Kirby, who speaks for the council on the marina, said: “I appreciate that the current position is annoying for local residents around the Western Undercliff, but I’d like to take this opportunity to reassure them that this is only a short-term issue. We will be carrying out urgent repairs to the lorry park at the Port of Ramsgate as quickly as we can, and once this work is done, those lorries will be moved off the Western Undercliff.”
