Ashlee Hincks through for one of her goals on Sunday
NATALIE Crineen and Ashlee Hincks both scored five times as Gills strolled into the semi finals of the Kent Cup. On paper this was going to be a mismatch and that's how it went on a day when their class showed through.
Manager Ian Varley made one change from the team that won last time out by giving Rachel Ahern a chance alongside Becky Lyon in the centre of defence at the expense of Kelly Herrett. Anelle Massey, who has impressed for the reserves in recent weeks, stepped up to the substitute's bench.
Gills were ahead on four minutes when Crinean slotted home after good work by Hincks. Two minutes later and Crinean returned the favour, playing in Hincks from 20 yards.
Just before the half-hour mark two became three as Deanna Cooper put Hincks through and Vicky Ashton-Jones set up Laura East for the fourth to ensure Gills had complete control. Danni Farmer provided a great ball for Crinean to hit her second and Cooper produced a splendid pass to Hincks and the striker calmly finished the move off to complete her hat trick with half time fast approaching.
The Gills got off to the worst possible start in the second half when Ashford pulled an unlikely goal back thanks to a fluke effort that looped over Katie Duffy.
The game then suffered a 30-minute delay as former Gills forward Jac Fiddyment collided with Rachel Ahern and an ambulance was called.
Once the game restarted, however, it didn't take for Crinean to complete her hat trick and notch up Gills' seventh goal of the game.
Danni Farmer crafted (and scored) the next one, soon after, Crinean played in Hincks for number nine and it went into double figures when the roles were reversed and Crinean calmly slotted her fourth.
She added number five after outmuscling a defender and calmly finding the back of the net and it wasn't long after that Crinean again turned provider for Hincks to get her fifth and the team's 12th.
Gills could have been forgiven for taking their foot off the gas, but they instead kept pressing for more goals.
Hincks set up in Ashton-Jones, Farmer grabbed her second from an Ashton-Jones cross before Massey unleashed a 30-yarder which left the keeper helpless. Not a bad way to round things off, that.
Gills Ladies Reserves 8 Aylesford 2
The reserve team completed a magnificent day for the club when they dismantled Aylesford at Martin Grove.
Lauren Harris made the early breakthrough and it wasn't long before Kylie Overton was adding a second and a third before Leanne Stevens registered a spectacular free kick.
More of the same in the second period, but there were a few scares. Like when Beth Hulme and Rebecca Bar both hit the back of the home side's net.
Sandwiched in between was a Gemma Ridge strike and it was no real surprise that the later stages were all about Gills as well.
Amy Russ scored a spectacular goal from distance before Megan Cavell bagged a double, on debut, to add the gloss to the scoreline.
An impressive performance from the reserves, this, as they stayed unbeaten in all competitions this season.
