GILLS' relegation plight worsened after they suffered their 12th away defeat in 15 away matches. And this time there was no ignoring the reaction of travelling fans.

The jeers and anguished cat calls were audible from most areas of the ground after another dismal performance on the road left Gills level on points with fourth-bottom Brighton, who have a game in hand.

Two penalties from former Ebbsfleet man Charlie McDonald, the first after a foul on the scorer by keeper Alan Julian; the second awarded for a dubious-looking foul by Kevin Maher on Toumani Diagouraga, gave the home side a 2-0 advantage inside 32 minutes, while Myles Weston bagged the other two (both as a result of poor passes) as the latest awayday brought misery.

The visitors did have their chances, however, with leading scorer Simeon Jackson, Andy Barcham and newcomer James Walker guilty of missing the target or having attempts saved.

Manager Mark Stimson will hope Renee Howe has recovered from a training injury he received on Friday.
