Proposals to build an anaerobic digestion plant at the former Otterpool Quarry site on the A20 were backed by Kent County Council this morning.

  1. BREAKING NEWS: Sellindge sludge plant plans approved by county council

Over 70 worried villagers arrived by coach at County Hall in Maidstone shortly before the hearing to lobby councillors.

But despite their protests and concerns about noise and air pollution, traffic issues and ground water contamination, KCC gave Countrystyle Ltd’s planning application the go ahead.

The authority argued the need to meet waste recycling targets was too great.

Sellindge and District Residents’ Association chairman Ronald Lello (CORR) said: “It’s not fair this has been given approval.

“We will fight this decision but for now we will regroup and consider our options.”

PLANS to build a sludge waste plant in Sellindge are due to be decided tomorrow.

Kent County Council’s planning applications committee is to discuss Countrystyle Recycling’s proposals for an anaerobic digestion facility at the former Otterpool Quarry site on Tuesday morning.

Concerned villagers will travel to County Hall in Maidstone to protest before the meeting.

Those opposed to the plans fear Sellindge and the surrounding areas will not be able to cope with the increase in traffic and they are also concerned house prices will plummet.
