It's happy fishing for Wells

Tunbridge Wells: 3

Fisher: 2

AFTER seeing his players win their first league game since the opening day, Tunbridge Wells boss Martin Larkin has now challenged them to remain unbeaten for the whole of November.

Wells produced a superb display to beat Fisher 3-2 on Saturday and, while it was their first Kent Premier League win since that demolition of Sporting Bengal, they are actually unbeaten in five games. Sadly, too many draws has hindered their progress.

They now face three tough games to finish the month - Lordswood (h), Greenwich Borough (a) and Beckenham (h) - but Larkin has his sights on climbing up the table.

"Lorsdwood is going to be hard to prepare for as they have sacked their manager," the Wells boss said.

"The new one has brought in five or six new players, so it's hard to know what we are going to be facing.

"My aim is to go through the month unbeaten. We have games in hand, so hopefully we can move up into mid-table, where I feel we belong."

And, looking a bit further ahead, Larkin would like to see his team emulate the league finish of the past two seasons - 10th.

"If we can beat that - finish ninth, eight, seventh or even sixth - with no budget for players, considering the budget we had at times last season, that would be pretty sensational."

Some of Wells' football against Fisher on Saturday was superb.

They knocked the ball around with confidence but, if anything, lacked a cutting edge in front of goal in the first half.

They were made to pay in the 20th minute, when an error from Mikelle Czanner, allowed St Aimie to score at the near post.

Wells didn't throw in the towel and pinned the visitors back, levelling on the stroke of half-time, thanks to a diving header from Steve Ashmore - his second goal in as many games.

After the break, Wells continued in the same vain. Benji Agana was unplayable at times and both he and Mike Lord had chances to score.

They eventually took the lead when St Aimie put an Alex Rich cross through his own goal.

The intensity of Wells' play then dropped and when Scott Whibley gave away a penalty, which Lawrence scored, it looked like it would be the same old story for the hosts.

However, Lord had other ideas, and with 10 minutes remaining netted the winner. In stoppage time Whibley picked up a second yellow card.

"I was very happy with the result, and particularly for the players that have worked so hard in training over the last month," Larkin said.

"I'm also pleased for the board and fans that have backed us so well lately.

"We are now unbeaten in five in the league and still have games in hand on the teams above us.

"It is always pleasing to win a game when you have had to come from a goal down - and to have gone and got the winner after being pegged back so late on was gratifying."
