“It was with interest & delight that I read your article about the forthcoming demolition of The cooling towers of the redundant Richborough power station. These towers have been a blight on the landscape for so many years. Nowadays we hear so many objections to the use and placing of wind power generators. Personally I would much rather see these rather attractive wind turbines.
As a matter of personal interest I remember my father telling me that he had worked on the construction of the towers. He was the foreman plumber with a large local firm and they were given the contract to install lightning conductors on the towers. My father told me that the block-work was a substantial thickness and that it was quite safe to walk on the top. I couldn't imagine anyone walking on there during the winds of the last few days.”
