A MAN died near a busy street during the middle of the school run this morning (Thursday).

A member of the public tried to revive the victim, believed to be in his 40s, who was found near to Rosie's Newsagents in Ingram Road, Gillingham, just after 8am.

Student Kelvin Munson, 19, of The Vineries, Gillingham, called 999. Mr Munson came across the man and another person trying to resuscitate him on his way to the newsagent.

He stayed with him until paramedics arrived.

He said: "He was dead when we were there.

I was talking to one of the paramedics - I think he swallowed his tongue. I think it had something to do with alcohol. There were seven or eight cans of cider next to him."

Police taped off a section of the road for a short time while a forensic team looked over the scene.

Officers are not treating the death as suspicious.
