Although the sun had finally made an appearance on Saturday and Sunday, its warmth was not enough fully to fully melt the icicles by the side of the Newingreen Road out of the town.
Photographer Peter Heavens said: “The icicles were about 15 inches long and made a dazzling display among the dark branches of nearby trees.
“I can’t think how they got there but the pool of water which can be seen in one of the photos may be a clue.
“We think that some time last night when the temperature was very low, lorries or other vehicles went through the puddle at speed, throwing up sheets of water which froze almost instantly as they touched the trees, creating the lovely icicles.”
