Borough Green roadworks fuel road rage fury

Tensions boiled over as "horrendous" roadworks have closed a stretch of the A25 .

The closure on Tuesday fuelled road rage fury among motorists, some of whom threw things at the workers employed by Kent Highway Services.

Highways spokesman Phil Scrivener said one lorry driver had even tried to run some of the workers down, and the incident had been reported to the police.

He said: "The message is to be patient. We do apologise for the delays but we are trying to keep disruption to a minimum."

Kent Highways has closed the stretch of road to strengthen the carriageways and has put in place a diversion which sends traffic onto Western Road and the A227 and past Nepicar roundabout.

The roadworks are scheduled to be finished by Monday (Jan 12) but workers will not be working this weekend.

All closures will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

On Wednesday, workers turned up in the morning to suspend residents' parking bays along Western Road.

Mr Scrivener said that the parking bays had been suspended to allow cars to pass , and the restriction would last for the same length of time as the roadworks (9.30am to 3.30pm).

Resident John Skinner said: "KCC should have realised before they closed the A25 the chaos it would cause in Borough Green."
