Whoever shot our cat is evil
Owner Faye Bowman says she is disgusted that anyone could be so violent and cruel to a 10-month old cat. The distraught mother from Mountfield Way, Westgate, had to shell out £160 in vet bills.
The 29-year-old said: "I was coming back from my friend’s house when my husband Dave rang and said he’d called the cats in for their food and only one had turned up. Domino normally comes in first because he’s a greedy little whatsit, but he came in with a limp and lay down on the stairs and there was blood coming from his leg."
The attack on Wednesday is now being investigated by the police.
The mum rushed the cat to the vets at Pets at Home who stitched up the wound. Although there was no pellet in the wound, X-rays the following day showed a pellet was lodged in another leg. Mrs Bowman said her children, Connor, six, Tovy, five, and Saul, three, were very upset when they found out what had happened.
The mum, who has another cat called Iggy, added: "Someone in this area is being extremely violent and seems to find it fun shooting animals. I think it’s disgusting, evil and very cruel. Would they like it if one of their pets had been shot? It really isn’t very nice to have to spend £160 just before Christmas."
RSPCA inspector Charlotte Eyden said: "We receive calls every year involving wildlife and domestic pets that have been injured or killed through airgun incidents. We would ask the public to be vigilant and to report any airgun attacks to our 24-hour cruelty line on 0300 1234 999."
Anyone with information about an air gun being fired in the area of Mountfield Way should call police on 01843 231055.
