By-law plan to stop overnight parking in Broadstairs
A BAN on parking overnight on Broadstairs’ Eastern Esplanade was one of the proposals put forward at the town’s annual assembly meeting.
Residents and councillors gathered at the Pavilion in Broadstairs on Monday, March 15, to hear presentations from councillors, guest speakers and ask questions.
In this section, Roy Hanson of Stone Bay raised the issue of camper vans and coaches parked overnight on the Eastern Esplanade causing a nuisance to residents. Cllr David Lawson responded saying: “This is a very real problem, not only to do with camper vans but coaches, and I am working towards introducing a by-law to restrict over-night parking.”
The meeting began with an annual report from the chairman of the finance and general purposes committee, Cllr Bill Peppiatt, on the work of the town council over the past year.
This was followed by a report from chairman of the planning committee, Cllr Tim Seed.
Next was the announcement that the Broadstairs and St Peter’s Town Design Statement, prepared by town clerk Roy Dexter, was available for public viewing.
The Town Design Statement document, once adopted, will become of the district’s Local Development Framework, which sets out the isle’s planning strategy.
Ian Dale, chairman of Pierremont Hall’s Community Centre Trust, also announced that the proposed centre could benefit from a £2-million investment from an unnamed charity.
Drawings for the proposed building were put on display.
