The sun may not have shone on the day but the star attractions in the main arena certainly dazzled the crowds, especially the Bolddog Lings motorbike stunt team as they performed their high flying acrobatic two-wheeled tricks.

Other crowd pleasers at the 64th annual show included the hunt display, ferret racing and vintage tractor parade.

"It has been the most wonderful day. It's chilly but hey, we're a hardy breed in Sussex," joked show president Elizabeth Buchanan.

"Many people have said this is the best show of the whole year because it's a proper agricultural show.

"This show celebrates British agriculture at its best. Everybody who comes here is part of that and it really matters to people deeply. Look at how many come here."

The cattle, sheep, pig and horse classes kicked off the proceedings on Saturday as judging of four-legged competitors began at 8am, culminating at the end of the day with parades of the winners and the handing out of trophies.

Visitors also enjoyed fairground rides, locally produced tasty treats, music from the Heathfield Silver Band and demonstrations of traditional crafts including fly fishing, masonry, spinning and lace-making.

Miss Buchanan said: "The point about Heathfield Show is that it doesn't matter what you like, there's something here for everybody."
