This is going to be tough
THE 40 over win against Nottinghamshire on Sunday has set us up nicely for yet another big week.
The weather guys got the forecast absolutely spot on for that game as it rained pretty much solidly until four o'clock.
Fortunately the ground staff at Canterbury did an excellent job and when they took the covers off we were able to play, albeit 16 overs a side. That at least gave the crowd who stayed around something to watch, and in the end it was pretty entertaining stuff.
I was also pleased to pick up a few wickets myself.
Full credit to Darren (Stevens) and Azhar (Mahmood). Over the last five or six overs of our innings they really set the game up for us and in the end we set a pretty intimating target for the Outlaws.
With 10 overs to go we were perhaps looking at 110, and to add another 20 odd runs to that was obviously a bonus.
We now go into two tough 40- over games over the bank holiday period, both away.
First up is Hampshire at the Rose Bowl on Sunday. They are, of course, Twenty20 champions and a tough one-day team - they always have been.
We've had some great battles against them over the years and will need to be at our best to get a result on Sunday.
On Monday we face Leicester at Grace Road. We had the better of them at Canterbury on a spinning wicket and it will be interesting to see what they have ready for us, but either way we will go into the game with high hopes of winning.
But we are under no illusions because they will both be tough games. We know that we need to win all our remaining matches in this competition and hope that somewhere along the line someone else slips up. Then we could go through via the back door as it were.
On Tuesday we return to County Cricket, again away, this time against Warwickshire.
Edgbaston is a strange ground to play at at the moment. It really is like a building site, and feels very open and very desolate. Although I'm sure it will be a great stadium when it's finished.
The game itself comes at a busy time and ideally we'd like a bit more preparation time, but that's the County Championship for you.
Warwickshire are below us in the table and it's a big game for both sides. We will approach it like any other game, one in which we will aim to do the basics well and get a result.
They've got some pretty good players and we expect Neil Carter to try to make an impact on his return.
All in all it's building up to a fascinating end to the season. That always seems to be the case for Kent in recent seasons and that last game away to Yorkshire could be very interesting.
