Two-goal Collin keeps Dover smiling and right up there in the play-off stakes
DOVER Athletic completed probably their best week of the season as they followed up their outstanding midweek Trophy win at Fleetwood with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Havant and Waterlooville at rainswept Crabble on Saturday.
Havant were the first team to beat Whites in Blue Square South this season, but Andy Hessenthaler's side have since avenged that result with a fine Trophy victory at Northleigh Park and never looked like making a mistak in the return league fixture.
Two goals from Frannie Collin in the space of only two minutes just before half-time put the home side on top.
Whites' matchwinner in the 1-0 win at Fleetwood, Adam Birchall added a third goal inside ten minutes of the start of the second period and a late strike by big Shaun Welford wrapped up a win that sent the Crabble faithful home in good spirits despite the awful weather on the afternoon.
Hessenthaler's side are now second in the table, and while the title is now runaways leaders Newport County's to lose, Dover look a terrific bet for a place in the end of season play-offs which would give them an excellent chance of achieving their third promotion in three seasons.
Top five placings: 1, Newport County, played 23 games, 56 points; 2, Dover Athletic 26, 44; 3, Chelmsford City 25, 44; 4, Thurrock 24, 42; 5, Woking 24, 42
