HALF term is just a fortnight away and at Birchington’s Powell-Cotton Museum there are plenty of animal antics for young explorers to take part in.

Scandalmongers acting troupe artists and storytellers Emily Parrish (cor) and Martin Gibbons will be ditching their penguin suits and donning pith helmets to take children on a voyage of discovery around the museum and garden.

During the five-day adventure, children will set up a base camp and go in search of beasts in the galleries and undergrowth and discover the largest elephant in Europe.

Activities run from Monday to Friday, February 15 to 19 and take place between 11am to 12.30pm and 2pm to 3.30pm.

It costs £8 for adults to take part, £7 for children and £30 for a family ticket. Friends of Quex go half price.

At the two weekends either side of the half-term week, families can also find out what it was like for explorers from history, such as Henry Stanley and Dr David Livingstone, to plot their own expeditions and make maps.

Tickets for the weekend sessions, held at the same times as during the week, Saturday and Sunday, February 13 and 14 or February 20 and 21, cost £5 for adults, £4 for children and £14 for a family to take part. Friends of Quex tickets are half price for all activities.
