Edenbridge News in Brief
EDENBRIDGE: Representatives from Edenbridge and District Twinning Association (EDTA) got the chance to meet the other siblings of its twin town Mont St Aignan.
Nine people from the EDTA attended a social event in the mountains of Alsace last week organised by residents of the French town.
Residents from Barsinghausen in Germany, Brzeg Dolny in Poland and Osica de Sus in Romania, which are all three twinned with Mont St Aignan, also went on the trip.
EDTA's Lindy Hulme said: "At the end of a very pleasant five days spent together we said goodbye to new and old friends and resolved to repeat the event in two years time, with the Barsinghausen group as the likely organising hosts." Definitely something to look forward to."
Club's first tournament
EDENBRIDGE: The town's chess club hosted its first ever tournament despite being in the town for more than 40 years.
The club's secretary, Ian Falkner, 70, of Penlee Close, said he was delighted to take home the trophy and hoped the tournament would be the first of many.
He said: "There have been a few new adult members in the last few years but we still want to get more people playing."
Mr Falkner, of Penlee Close, was modest in the acceptance of his trophy: "It feels unusual. There are at least two players that are better than me, so I was surprised to win."
Tea dance treat
EDENBRIDGE: More than 80 senior residents enjoyed champagne, strawberries and cream as part of an annual tea dance put on by the town's rotary club.
The event, which has been running more than a decade, also included an Okarina performance by youngsters from Edenbridge Primary School.
Rotary club spokesman John Martin said: of last Wednesday's (June 24) tea at the WI Hall: "As always everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. We had a lot of people in. It is a good way of bringing them together."
