THE Leas was alive with the sound of music last week when a Shepway theatre group put on a string of shows based on one of the world's most popular musicals.

Hundreds of people watched a cast of local children and adults in the Community Theatre Project's production of The Sound Of Music at the Leas Cliff Hall from April 10 to 14, enjoying the timeless tale of governess Maria sent to teach the many children of the family Von Trapp.

The shows, directed by Bob Osborne and produced by Neil Hunnisett, featured a live orchestra, mountain sets and all the hits from the Rogers and Hammerstein musical including My Favourite Things, Sixteen Going On Seventeen, Lonely Goatherd, Climb Every Mountain and Edelweiss.

Mr Osborne said: "It went really, really well and we had a fantastic response from the audience. The ticket sales were great and word-of-mouth certainly helped."
