“The government is pressing ahead with the planned high-speed rail link between London and Birmingham, and then to Leeds and Manchester. The journey time from Euston to Birmingham will be cut to 49 minutes. Campaigners are furious, and have already vowed to pursue a judicial review of the government's decision. “HS1 seems to have benefited towns in Kent for commuters, but if it just runs direct from Birmingham to London then it might be of limited value to most travellers.”
