“Mindless violence in Canterbury and the surrounding area seems to be on the uprise. Over the past three weeks, I have witnessed (and on one occasion assisted to break up one of) three unprovoked violent attacks on people, because of their race and even their hair colour. Although not naive enough to believe this is a new theme within city life, it does concern me that so many bystanders will walk past without at least checking the victim is ok. Ofcourse not everyone is expected to rush in to stop a fight, but I'd like to ask you out there if you would have the confidence to defend, help or at least check that the victims are alright after these disgusting and inexcusable attacks, and if there is any way as a community we can lower the rate in which they happen, for I, and all I know, are becoming weary of the increase of violence within the towns. This is not to say take the law into your own hands, just to clarify. It is merely a question posed to see if there are others, of which I'm certain there are, who are intolerant of such inexcusable behaviour.”
