I RECENTLY walked down to Calverley Grounds and saw two adults and two toddlers on the skating rink.

Following a previous visit, when mild weather had proved fatal to the ice, I was pleased to see some life there.

But will it be worth all the money spent on its installation and how long will it take to restore the churned-up lawns after January?

This is my third attempt to wake up citizens to the fact that there is considerable interest in having a rink here, but on a permanent basis.

I gather that many tickets have already been sold and, with the weather changing so rapidly, may have to be refunded, which is very sad when families have looked forward so much to this excitement.

So where are the wealthy entrepreneurs willing to take a chance and risk building a permanent ice rink on the derelict site opposite the Town Hall? Why not have a single-screen cinema above the rink, to please senior citizens who can no longer enjoy skating?

I for one, as an elderly resident, would consider buying a few shares for this project if it came on the market.
