IN HER reply to my letter, Tracy Carpenter (September 25) tells us that "new people who have chosen to make their homes here and commit to the area in real financial terms offer much more benefit and enterprise for local employment than Manston airport has ever offered to local people".

People have been choosing to make their homes in this area for over 50 years yet Thanet still has high numbers of unemployed people. Perhaps Tracy Carpenter would explain what jobs she expects to be created by these new people and minimum wage and part-time jobs are not what we need for local people to raise their living standards.
