A band on the up
A BAND which "indulges in a bit of singing and screaming" will headline a gig in Folkestone later this month.
Upcdownc will perform at Bar Below at The View on West Terrace on Friday, February 17.
The concert starts at 8.30pm and will also feature support from Telepathy and Medmenham.
A spokesman for gig presenters Nine Crows said: "Upcdownc is an instrumental rock, delay, riff, kick and moog four-piece from Medway who also indulge in a bit of singing and a bit of screaming." Upcdownc have just released their fourth album, Calaveras, on Field Records. Reviewing the album, Rocksound gave it eight out of 10 and said: ""When Upcdownc put out another great album it's no great surprise."
Echoes and Dust said: "Calaveras is a very accomplished album, showing off not only the spectrum of Upcdownc's possibilities and influences, but also their dry sense of humour."
Rough Trade added: "Calaveras shows a growth in the dynamics of the instrumental interplay… a lesson in high drama, Upcdownc take the traditional guitar band formula and wrench new emotional depth from the strings and skins."
Upcdownc will be supported by Telepathy, described by the Nine Crows spokesman as a "loud experimental metal band from Essex whose first EP Fractures has got great reviews".
AltSounds.co.uk said: "Telepathy is a metal band through and through, but they have the beauty and intelligentsia to rise above any run-of-the-mill, open-D chugging whiners that pervade the current scene."
Medmenham complete the line-up. The Nine Crows spokesman said: "They were created by members of legendary Folkestone bands such as Nancy's Place.
"The mixture of noise and performance art is going to be extraordinary."
Tickets cost £3.
