Woolford gutted to lose on cuts
SCOTT WOOLFORD'S pleas to fight on were ignored as another bad cut ended his chances of an upset against former British champ Young Mutley.
The pair clashed heads at the end of the second round in Nottingham and the bout was called off on doctor's orders when the wound opened up early in the third.
It was shocking luck for The Gent who was also stopped on cuts against Mark Douglas a year ago.
Ramsgate welterweight Woolford was put down by a body shot in the second round but that stirred him into action and he was on top when referee Terry O'Connor called on the doc.
He said: "I pleaded with the doctor to let me have the rest of the round because I'd just caught Mutley with a big right that made him stumble but he said no chance. I'm gutted to lose like that after all the hard work we'd put in preparing for the fight.
"Mutley's still a very, very good boxer.
"He started fast, won the first round and put me down with a great body shot in the second which really took the wind out of me.
"I thought to myself, 'I'm in a right fight here' and that's when I got at him and started doing my best work really.
"It would have been interesting if it had gone the full six rounds.
