A WOMAN in her 80s has been taken to hospital and part of the A259 near New Romney has been closed following a car accident this morning.

The road was shut in both directions between Coast Drive and Church Road after the collision at 6.30am.

The woman was taken to the William Harvey in Ashford.

Police are investigating the incident and said the road would be closed "for quite a while".

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.
