Walmer man charged with attempted murder after cop "threatened with machete"

A MAN has been charged with attempted murder after a police officer was allegedly threatened with a machete in Walmer yesterday.

Michael Alan Mankelow, 57, of Downs Road, Walmer, is due to appear in court today.

Yesterday a police officer who attended an address in Downs Road, Walmer, at 10am to arrest a 57-year-old man in relation to a separate offence was allegedly threatened with a machete.

Mankelow was arrested half an hour later.
