A MAN from Southborough who spied on a schoolgirl in a public toilet has been put on the sex offenders' register after being caught in possession of child porn.

Alan Smallwood, of Aspen Way, was found guilty of voyeurism earlier this year after sticking his head under a cubicle wall in a supermarket women's toilet while a 12-year-old was inside.

The court heard how Smallwood, 24, claimed he rushed into the toilets at the Sainsbury's store in Maidstone to be sick.

During proceedings at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday Smallwood was given a three-year supervision order.

This followed the discovery of 50 indecent images on his computer after it was seized by police officers.

It was revealed in court that the images were of young children.

Smallwood will now be on the sex offenders' register for the next five years.

On top of this he will also be subject to a five-year sexual prevention order.

Investigating officer Fiona Dalzell praised the young victim for reporting the initial incident, which occurred on November 30 in 2009, to police.

She said: "This was a very frightening experience for the young victim, and she has been very brave in reporting this directly after it happened, particularly as Smallwood continued to deny the offence throughout.

"Her testimony allowed us to make a quick arrest.

"I would like to thank her for her continued assistance in this case, which has enabled us to bring this man to justice," she added.
