A WOMAN who claimed to practise voodoo was caught on a hidden camera subjecting two little girls and their mother to a sickening reign of abuse.

A judge this week said Tracey Ibrahim, 41, from Five Oak Green, behaved like an "animal" towards the vulnerable family, including sisters aged just three and one at the time.

Ibrahim has been jailed for nearly four years for the attacks, which involved hacking off the hair of the woman and elder daughter, dunking their heads in the bath and hitting both girls.

Relatives were so worried about bruises they spotted on their loved ones that they secretly installed a spy camera in a kitchen clock.

It captured Ibrahim attacking the family and making voodoo curses.

At Maidstone Crown Court, Judge Michael Carroll said in 22 years he had never seen anything like it and described Ibrahim's behaviour in the video footage as "horrific".

He added: "This is not just antisocial behaviour. In my book it is animal behaviour."

Ibrahim pleaded guilty to two charges of assaulting the mother causing her actual bodily harm and one of common assault on each of the children.

Judge Carroll jailed Ibrahim for three years and 10 months and said her cruelty had been sustained and with a degree of premeditation.

Prosecutor Judith King said: "She claimed to be able to practise voodoo and put curses on people. The mother believed this. She lived in fear."

Mrs King said the mother was left with cuts and nicks on her neck as well as bald patches after Ibrahim had chopped off her hair.

A statement from the mum read in court said: "She told me if I said anything about the abuse, nobody would believe me. However, I now know that they do.

"I have flashbacks and nightmares about what happened."

It is understood Ibrahim lived in a Town and Country Housing Group flat in Falmouth Place only for a matter of months last year.

Crown Prosecution Service prosecutor Alistair Dickson told the Courier: "This was a deeply upsetting case where the defendant bullied and physically abused a vulnerable woman and two very young children. The judge gave the maximum sentence that could have been expected in the circumstances and it is reassuring that both the children and their mother are now safe from further harm and that the defendant has been punished for such a dreadful offence."

“Curses are equal to threats and this appears to have been a case of death threats by claiming to have magical powers. And using these threats to terrify and assault a mother and two children.
What a ridiculous sentence the court has given.
There should be a Public request for a proper trial.”

“3yrs 10mths? In reality she'll be out after about a year and a half. I read elsewhere that the victim has had her children taken into care and now has other psychological problems as a result of this hag. Burning at the stake would be too good for this oxygen thief.”

“I'd have thought the minimum sentence for witchcraft with multiple physical assault connected to threats would be a lot higher than!”
