EASTER holidays may be a distant memory for Sevenoaks' schoolchildren, but here are some photo memories to cheer them up as they settle back into school routine.

Sevenoaks District Council's In the Zone project has been hailed as a massive success over the Easter period, attracting around 270 children to its holiday activity sessions in the town and in Horton Kirby.

At Sevenoaks Community Centre, 100 youngsters came together to take part in human table football and cheerleading sessions.

In perhaps one of the strangest matches ever played by the youngsters, players strapped themselves onto poles and hoofed a ball between them.

Skateboarding and BMX riding was another hot favourite with the kids, drawing another 100 to Greatness Recreation Ground.

Youth development co-ordinator Sophie Lord said: "We had a variety of abilities and there were three separate groups, beginners, intermediates and those who were just normal skaters, who could learn new tricks."

Horton Kirby had its own share of the fun, with some 70 children whizzing around on skates.

Miss Lord said: "A large group of 10 to 13-year-olds came along and they were having a great time.

"We also had some really young children under five who really wanted a go at ice skating.

"Families were able to try it and out and see whether their children liked it.

"The children wore proper ice skates but it was a special plastic surface."

Speaking of the upcoming summer programme of activities, she said: "That's the theme for the summer programme – we want families involved and that's what we are planning at the moment.

"We are asking for ideas for games and themes, such as teddy bears' picnics and space days."
