UPDATE: Burlington House fire
Kent Fire and Rescue was called to the blaze at 6.55pm.
Ten engines were sent to the scene including a height vehicle and support units.
Some 60 firefighters are dealing with the "serious" fire on the first floor of the 12 storey block at St James's.Crews are using eight sets of breathing apparatus, two main jets, two hydrants and an open water feed.
The entire building is heavily smoke-logged.Officers are searching for reported occupants.
