One of the first people to tweet the news was Canterbury Liberal Democrat councillor Alex Perkins. He said: "Dave Lee died today. We were going to give him the freedom of the city next month. Sad day."
Mr Lee, a popular charity fundraiser best known for his work on the stage, had to pull out of pantomime Cinderella in November because of ill health.

“This is indeed a very sad day for us all, the loss of a truely great man, a friend and companion, not to mention a fellow athlete. Everyone at Gillingham Football Club will miss the smiling face, the humour and more importantly the sheer warmth of the man, qualities rarely found in people these days. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to Daves family at this very difficult of times. RIP Dave Lee, a real legend, one of the best. Paul Scally”
