Transfer deadline day set to pass quietly at Gillingham
ANDY Hessenthaler confirmed, this morning, that the transfer deadline day will pass quietly as far as Gillingham are concerned.
“We won’t be doing any business,” he said. “No-one will be coming in and no-one will be going out. I might be looking at using the loan market, which opens in a couple of weeks, as a way of making changes within the squad, but for now nothing is happening.”

He’s not really that concerned since he’s seen enough to know that when fit the current squad is strong enough.
Especially since the likes of Dennis Oli, Curtis Weston, Stanley Aborah – who has signed for a second month - and goalkeeper Alan Julian will be fit enough to play in a reserve game on Wednesday.
If they all come through that and if he hasn’t any new injuries to worry about, then Hessy will have virtually his whole squad available for the home game against Shrewsbury on September 11.
The Gills boss also named the six of Saturday’s team who will figure – as per the competition rules - in tonight’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie at Southend.
Cody McDonald will make his second start and will play alongside Danny Spiller, Barry Fuller, Jack Payne, Tony Sinclair and goalkeeper Lance Cronin. Others coming into the side include Mark McCammon, Luke Rooney, John Nutter and Josh Gowling.
“It’s a game we want to win,” said Hessy. “A lot of people deride the competition, but it’s a chance to get to Wembley. I’d also say that winning becomes a habit so if we do get a result it might just kickstart our league campaign.”
