FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON: Town's player-coach Rob Quinn gets in front of an Erith and Belvedere defender to score the winning goal on Saturday

THE cliche "a week is a long time in football" might be a tired line, but it perhaps best sums up Sevenoaks Town's fortunes in the past seven days.

Manager Keith Levett was not best pleased with his side's showing in the FA Cup defeat to Lingfield last Sunday, citing a lack of passion and work rate, but after Saturday's win, he was a much happier man.

Town went behind in the 30th minute to a Marcus Cassius goal and Erith and Belvedere would have probably figured a win was on the cards.

However, Jack Gibbons's exquisite lob on the hour mark and player-coach Robert Quinn's strike, nine minutes from time, sealed an excellent away win.

"We played some good football and deserved to win the game," Levett said.

"The boys certainly responded to what we had said to them after the Lingfield match and put in a good performance. We will have to see if we can replicate the performance on Saturday in the future.

"We knew the way that they played, I mean the style of football, that we would get a lot of possession so it was about using it well. They took the lead against the run of play, so at half-time I said if we carry on playing the way we had been then we would be fine."

Sevenoaks started well, Gibbons headed wide and Joe Creasey went close as the players seemed to want to firmly banish any memories from the Lingfield defeat.

However, Erith and Belvedere opened the scoring when Cassius's shot beat Simon Overland at his near post, after his shot had gone through two defenders. Levett brought on Lee Hales, more about him later, for Joe Minter at the break and the change paid dividends.

Gibbons picked his spot perfectly to lob Richard Stroud and Town were right back in the match. Quinn hit the post with a shot, the ball bouncing across the face of goal afterwards and Town were on top.

Overland had to be alert to save substitute Sean Rivers's shot and then Town grabbed the win.

Hales, who began the move, fed fellow substitute Mickey Mullane and his low cross was turned in by Quinn.

A win at Park View Road, the club's first in six meetings at the ground, is the perfect result before Town travel to the Culverden for Bank Holiday Monday's derby with Tunbridge Wells, kick-off 3pm.

"We still have got a lot to do and we will have to work very hard," Levett said. "I would like to try and be a bit more solid, also get a bit more movement off the front. It was good to get that first win and it will help with the team's confidence.

"The effort and determination I saw on Saturday was what I wanted after the Lingfield match."
