Tonbridge's Julian Rendall wins North Downs 30k in tough conditions
JULIAN Rendall, Tonbridge's international ultra distance runner, won the North Downs 30k race on June 24 in tough conditions. Recent heavy rain had left the multi terrain course very muddy in places, which slowed times considerably from previous years.
Rendall won in a time of 2hrs 2mins 25secs, finishing more than two minutes clear of Allen Smalls, of Colchester. This weekend Rendall will be competing in the Gloucester 50km road race and hoping to put himself in contention for further international selection.

Dave Coleman threw 51.23m in the discus to place 10th in the final, which was less than a metre from his best this season. The event was won by UK record holder, Lawrence Okoye, of Croydon, who gained automatic selection for the Olympics.

Robbie Farnham-Rose ran a very positive race in his heat of the 1500m on Friday, but after finishing sixth of 14 runners, was unable to progress to the final. In cold and windy conditions times became irrelevant, as each heat developed into a tactical affair. Farnham-Rose was with the leaders at the bell, but the top five pulled away on the last lap, as he ran 3.52.45. This left him short of the qualifying time that he was searching for to gain a place in the Great Britain team to go to the World Junior Championships. However, he will now turn his attention to racing at the English Schools Championships next weekend.
