BEWARE of bogus medics calling to review medication, patients in Thanet are being warned. Health bosses say that five people in the eastern and coastal Kent area have been called by someone pretending to be from their local surgery. Patients have been advised they would benefit from Pomegranate tablets and asked for their credit card details. A woman in her 80s who thought she was talking to her GP surgery later found £179.50 was taken from her account. Her son traced the call back to India.

NHS Eastern and Coastal Kent’s Assistant Director of Medicines Management Alison Issott said: “No NHS health professional would ever ask for a patient’s credit card details over the phone. We urge anyone suspicious of calls not to give out personal details and to contact police.”
