MP Roger Gale could become the next Speaker of the House of Commons
Mr Gale, who has been a member of parliament since 1983, has also been given 20/1 odds by bookmaker William Hill, to take over the role permanently.
The Speaker presides over the debates of the House of Commons, ensuring that members of all parties get a chance to speak.
If he is to be successful he will have to beat of competition from other parties. William Hill's favourite is Hampshire Tory Sir George Young, closely followed by Labour bank bencher Frank Field and former Liberal Democrat leader Menzies Campbell.
