A teenager was taken to hospital last night after a gas canister exploded in Folkestone's Wood Avenue.

Police, paramedics and Folkestone firefighters were all called to Wood Avenue at about 6pm after a gas canister on an air gun exploded.

Kent police said the 19-year-old man had tried to heat up the gas canister with a lighter which caused the explosion.

He was treated on the scene for a chest injury and then taken by paramedics and taken to the William Harvey Hospital.
