Teenage girl in court over Broadstairs stabbing
A TEENAGE girl has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a stabbing in Broadstairs last month.
Jade Bennett, 18, of no fixed address, is accused of trying to kill 20-year-old Sarah Ripley.
Dressed in casual clothes, Bennett sat in still silence as Toyin Kuti, prosecution, read aloud the details of the charges.
She is accused of stabbing Miss Ripley, a Thanet College student, in Granville Road on January 19.
Richard Scotter, defending, did not enter a plea on behalf of his client but requested that Miss Bennett, also a student at Thanet College, be given bail.
Chairman of the bench, Alan Percival, refused the application.
Miss Bennett will remain in custody until she appears at Maidstone Crown Court on March 12.
Sitting in the public gallery at Margate Magistrates this afternoon, Bennett's weeping mother was comforted by family as she watched her daughter being led up from the cells to the dock.
