Team Sapper take on The Big Battlefield Bike Ride
A team of overenthusiastic ex and serving soldiers from the Brompton Barracks is aiming to raise £100,000 for Help for Heroes.
Led by Regimental Sergeant Major, Gordon 'Charlie' Chaplin, Team Sapper is working hard to beat the weather and keep training before beginning a cycling challenge with a twist.
They will set out on The Big Battlefield Bie Ride on May 20th and travel from Chatham to France via Portsmouth and back again, a trip totalling some 500 miles. Due back on the 26th, Charlie, who has been serving at the Royal School of Military Engineering for twenty years, has chosen to make it that much harder for himself - he'll be pedalling a 190g rickshaw, the very same rickshaw in fact, used by The One Show's Matt Baker in his own challenge for Children in Need last year.
Team Sapper will be joined at Portsmouth by over 300 cyclists, including the old, the young and injured servicemen, on tandems and on hand bikes. En route they will stop at World War 1 and World 2 battlefields to lay wreaths in honour of old and new heroes.

Charlie would love to involve the local community in supporting their challenge and is looking for people to either join the team, publicise their fundraising efforts or sponsor the rickshaw. He said: "Assisting in the effort would give all the lads a great boost, and would also give great publicity for fund raising towards the injured heroes returning from operations, as well as promote the good that the military do within the local area. We currently have several local businesses who have donated towards Team Sapper's cause. This has ensured that their logo is displayed upon the rickshaw for the duration of the journey. There is plenty of space upon the rickshaw for further sponsorship, along side Mid Kent College, Village Hotel and others. If anyone would like to sponsor the rickshaw and place a logo etc. please contact me via email: charliechaplin677@hotmail.com"

About Help for Heroes
The charity Help for Heroes was launched in October 2007 in order to provide direct, practical support to those wounded, sick or injured in the line of duty since 9/11. All the funds raised to date are either allocated or spent on the direct, practical support of those wounded in the current conflicts. To date, H4H has funded a variety of projects including the £8m Rehabilitation Complex at Headley Court, a new £3.5m treatment centre for Combat Stress, adaptive adventure training through the Battle Back programme and the creation of a £6m Quick Reaction Fund to support individuals in need.
