Sun shines on festival finale

AFTER two weeks dodging wet and unpredictable weather, the sun finally shone on the closing event of the Eden Valley Summer Festival.

The free concert at Stangrove Park was held by Kent Music and sponsored by the Great Stone Bridge Trust and the Edenbridge Music and Arts Trust.

Children played and the adults tapped their toes as Connie and Nigel Garrard, and youth group the Fuggles sang numbers by Abba, Amy Winehouse, Adele, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Guns N Roses, Frank Sinatra, and Kate Bush.

The Forge Singers, fresh from festival opener 'A right royal celebration', joined in from the audience with a rendition of 'New York, New York' as the closing number.

The nearby leisure centre held a barbecue and had a bar, and town council chairman Clive Pearman thanked those involved.

Festival committee member Veronica Pearman said: "The Party in the Park thankfully took place under sunny skies and was very well received."
