Stimson rings the changes and Gills respond with battling stalemate
Yeovil Town 0 Gillingham 0
BATTLING Gills claimed a point at Yeovil, but while they clambered out of the bottom four on goals difference, the fact remains it is now 10 games and almost two months since they last won a game.
And they haven't scored in six of their last seven outings.
Yeovil was always going to be a tough venue - Gills have a very ordinary record there - but manager Mark Stimson had six changes to the starting line-up, recalling Garry Richards for the first time since October, starting with Adam Miller and bringing in Dennis Oli, James Walker, Kevin Maher and John Nutter..
Out went Mark Bentley, Chris Palmer, Josh Gowling, Luke Rooney, Andy Barcham and top scorer Simeon Jackson.
Richards made a crucial block from Dean Bowditch in the early exchanges, but apart from that scare the visitors comfortably dealt with everything Yeovil had to offer.
It would be equally truthful to say home keeper Alex McCarthy was hardly overworked, either.
He had to make saves from Oli and Weston just before the interval, but the nearest thing to a goal came shortly after the change round, when Alan Julian superbly tipped a Nathan Smith cross-shot onto the bar at one end and Weston hit the post at the other.
Julian also did well to keep out a Ryan Mason drive, while Jackson headed just over from a Miller cross some 10 minutes from time.
That apart there wasn't much else to write home about, but after the week he's just had Stimson would have welcomed a share of the spoils with open arms.
He will be hoping, again, that it's the start of a Gills renaissance.
