Dicko on target, but Gills have to settle for point
Gillingham 1 Leyton Orient 1
CHRIS Dickson bagged his first goal since returning to the krbs Priestfield Stadium, but Gills in the end had to settle for a point from their League 1 clash with Leyton Orient.
Dickson knocked in a loose ball from close range after the O's keeper, Jamie Jones, failed to hang on to a Simeon Jackson shot in the eighth minute.
For the rest of the first half it was the home side who attacked most, although they tended to lose their way a little towards the interval and were certainly second best to their visitors afterwards.
Best of the chances fell to Jackson a few minutes before half-time, when he ran on to a splendid through ball from Rene Howe, tried to chip Jones but instead lifted it well over the top.
Jones had to make one instinctive blocking save from Dickson's close range header on 62 minutes, but by then Orient were in command and it was no surprise when Tamika Mkandawire volleyed a sweet equaliser in the 72nd.
By the time the final whistle went, though, the bulk of those present probably agreed a point was a fair enough outcome from a closely-contested game.
