SAILING: Herne Bay Sailing Club's season got underway at the weekend with a cadet day, followed by the first spring series race.

After a morning of sunshine, the weather changed completely during the afternoon, before the start of Spring Series C Race 1.

Two boats capsized when a squall came through, so some of the competitors waited until this had passed before going afloat.

The Laser 2000 of Brian and Maria Golton were first over the line, but this early lead was taken from them by the 29er sailed by their daughter Hannah and crew Tom Daniels.

The lead changed a few times. Catamaran 5734 went ahead only to be overtaken by RS700 of Steve Owen only to have it taken back again by the 29er.

As the weather changed dramatically yet again, the race officer abandoned the event.
