I WAS delighted that Tunbridge Wells is trialling a CCTV spy car to clamp down on motoring louts ("Spy car is council's latest parking tool," Tunbridge Wells edition, December 23)

I see so many motorists chatting and tweeting on mobile phones whilst driving, including some lorry drivers, who put their passengers' lives at risk, not to mention other people using the road. If these people weren't being so inconsiderate, then there would be no need to go to the expense of having a spy car. Maybe residents could even have a council tax rebate.

With a spy car shadowing a driver, there will be less chance of him or her blaming the offence on a partner or long dead Uncle Herbert. The lout would be caught there and then, with little time to think up excuses, right in front of a camera.

The benefits of a spy car also include reducing traffic congestion and accidents, encouraging the free flow of traffic, acting as a visible car crime deterrent and keeping bus lanes clear to avoid delays for commuters and shoppers.

With 50 offences already, imagine how many dangerous motorists would be caught if Tunbridge Wells had it permanently.
