Southborough residents have won their fight to prevent a homeless shelter opening on their doorstep.

Christian charity the Wayfarer Project wanted to use St John's Methodist Church in Vale Road as a night shelter for homeless people in West Kent.

But the controversial plans were turned down on Tuesday (April 7).

    “The sad fact is that:

    a. we are all only one phone call away from being homeless....

    b. the vast majority of people who are homeless are not homeless because of any wrong doing on their part...

I dont know the full details of why this plan was turned down - but as the credit crunch bites we all need MORE places in our community where those who are homelesss can find a warm welcome... and have a chance to rebuild their life with some support.

Well done and thank you to those people in the Church and local community who suggested and supported this project.
