NONE of the increasing numbers of visitors who come to Thanet each year could fail to be impressed by the beauty of Ramsgate's Royal Harbour.

Sitting, whether it be with a cup of tea or glass of wine, in one of the many seafront bars and cafes is a memory many visitors take away.

Why then are these places, so important to the isle's economy, subjected to seemingly endless floods and deluges? Why are its businessmen and women increasingly coming into work to find their cellars full of water with stock and furniture ruined?

The answer is that Southern Water, bathing itself in seven-figure profits, will not sort out the area's decaying Victorian sewer system.

It would rather businesses were repeatedly left to pick up the pieces than sort out what is its responsibility.

If Ramsgate harbour is to remain the beautiful, thriving place it is today, it is in everyone's interest to see that the cafes and bars around it don't end up in the drink.

WELL done to Kent Police for getting rid of yob Luke Brown, who was ruining his neighbours' lives in Cliftonville.

There can be few worse things to endure than feeling threatened and harassed in your own home.

Let's hope the case sets a precedent for the local police and the council, whose tenant Brown was, and that next time residents are not allowed to endure the hell of such a neighbour for more than a year before something is finally done.
