Job Clubs

Margate Job Club at Gateway Plus has had more than 200 visitors between September 2011 and January 2012. Only one fifth of participants completed CVs and just eight found full time work.

Thanet Regeneration Board

The body is meant to oversee the work and skills in Thanet by bringing together the public, private and voluntary sectors but there are no private sector members on the board.

Work Programme

The Government's flagship scheme is yet to be rolled out in Thanet since its national launch last June.

The welfare-to-work project replaced the New Deal and uses the private, public and voluntary sectors to get the long-term unemployed back to work.

After nine months, Thanet jobseekers are referred to private firm Avanta which receives incentives of up to £13,700 for each person that they find work for. Another firm, Skills Training UK has been hired to find work for troubled and workless families.
